BGC - Pennichuck Wrestling takes Thibault Cup
Middle School Wrestling Tournament has amazing showing in City Title bout.
Riding first place finishes by Connor McBride, Dan Michaud, Deepak Ravir and Joey Page, Pennichuck Middle School won the city middle school wrestling title at the second annual Mark Thibault Memorial Wrestling Championships, held on February 17. The tournament, hosted by program sponsor, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua, was held at Nashua North High School.
Eighth graders dominated the tourney, taking 31 of 52 team scoring opportunites available by placing fourth or better in 13 weight classes. Former Club member and Pennichuck Coach, J.W. Williams' Raiders wrestled the Mark Thibault Cup out of the grip of their rivals from defending champ Nashua Catholic, whose 103 team points fell just short of Pennichuck's tournament winning 109. Fairgrounds Middle School placed third with 93 points, followed by Elm St. Middle School with 84.
Williams remarked, "Placing third in the Middle School State Tournament and bringing Pennichuck's first-ever team to the Tri County League tourney were great, but our focus this year, from the first day of practice, was winning the Thibault Cup. Our kids have come a long way, and I'm very proud of the way they kept their eyes on the prize and brought it home."
As part of a commitment to youth sports, fitness & recreation opportunities, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua sponsors middle school wrestling teams in the 3 Nashua public middle schools. This opportunity is exciting for the youth to continue the program that starts with the K-4 team offered at the Boys & Girls Club. Thibault Cup Results
